Aamir Khan-produced Laapataa Ladies is no longer in the running for the Oscar 2025 Best International Feature category. Directed by Kiran Rao, the film was India's official submission for the prestigious award. However, on Tuesday, The Academy revealed the shortlisted films, and Laapataa Ladies (renamed Lost Ladies for international audiences) did not make the cut. One of the first to react to the snub was Grammy Award winner Ricky Kej, who voiced his opinion on X, stating that Laapataa Ladies was the "wrong choice" to represent India at the Oscars.

"So, the @TheAcademy Oscars shortlist is out. #LaapataaLadies is a very well-made, entertaining movie (I enjoyed it), but it was absolutely the wrong choice to represent India for the best #InternationalFeatureFilm category. As expected, it lost. When are we going to realize... year after year... we are choosing the wrong films? There are so many excellent movies made, and we should be winning the #InternationalFeatureFilm category every year!" Ricky wrote.
