Telugu film actor Allu Arjun has been arrested by the police in connection with a deadly stampede that occurred at the premiere of his film Pushpa 2 in Hyderabad on December 4. The tragic incident resulted in the death of a 39-year-old woman and left her son in critical condition.
The police have filed charges against the Sandhya Theatre management, Allu Arjun, and his security team. Authorities revealed that they had not received any prior notice that the film’s cast would be attending the premiere, which contributed to the chaos.
Arjun was taken into custody on Friday by a team from Chikkadpally police station, where the case was filed. Deputy Commissioner of Police for Central Zone, Hyderabad Police, Akshansh Yadav, confirmed that a case was registered under BNS sections 105 (punishment for culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 118(1) r/w 3(5) (voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt). The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have vowed to take strict action against those responsible for the chaotic situation inside the theatre.
Allu Arjun is set to be presented before a magistrate later today. Despite approaching the Telangana High Court to clear his name from the FIR, the case has not yet been heard. Meanwhile, Sandhya Theatre’s owner and two employees have already been arrested.
According to the police investigation, the theatre management allegedly failed to take proper measures to control the crowd. There was no separate entry or exit for the actor’s team, and as Arjun arrived at the theatre around 9:30 pm with his personal security, the crowd surged toward him. The actor’s security team reportedly began pushing the crowd, escalating the situation.
The victim, M Revathi, a 39-year-old homemaker, had attended the premiere with her family. Her son, a fan of Allu Arjun, was with her at the time of the incident.
